I AM STILL LEARNING

WHAT WILL YOUR VERSE BE? OPTION ONE

I never grew up with my mother because she was very sick, until this day she still hasn’t fully healed. I had to live with my grandmother and two aunts. Growing up I wasn't everyone's favorite because I was my own person and people wanted me to be more like my older brother. People misunderstood me and didn’t accept me as who I was. My father wasn't really around because he was too busy trying to make a leaving for us. I was looking for that family figure love.

In the song "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Nina Simone we see that she is in a relationship and she gets moody sometimes. She is telling him she is not perfect and despite her imperfections she still a great person. She doesn't want to be defined by her bad side, therefore he is making her whole personality misunderstood. "But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood." (Simone 5-6). She is making an effort for love in order for things to work out. I believe this song can be a representation for both poems, "Favorite Color" by Jay Davis and "OCD" by Neil Hilborn. They're all want to be loved by someone that they care about.

In the poem "Favorite Color" by Jay Davis we see a sixteen year old girl trying to make her mother notice her children. The tone in this poem is very sad because she is willing to do anything in order to get her mom to notice her. "I know that now you probably think I'm crazy that this is just another one of my phases. But I'm not crazy, Mom. Humans just have crazy tendencies when we want someone to love us." (Davis 48-51). This is very powerful and true because they're looking for love from

In the poem "OCD" by Neil Hilborn we see that suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder and his mind was never in peace because of the thoughts on his mine, until he met a girl. There are two tones for this poem the first is Fulfillment because everything was great in the beginning. We as human double check things sometimes you might double check to make sure if the iron is turned off after using it. In some cases, people with obsessive compulsive disorder feel the need to check things repeatedly. "She loved that I had to kiss her goodbye sixteen times or twenty four times if it was Wednesday." (Hilborn 24-25). They were happy and he was satisfied with her loving him until the second time the poem arrived and he was depressed because of how she started to stop loving him day by day. "Last week she started sleeping at her mother's place. She told me that she shouldn't have let get so attached to her; that this whole thing was a mistake." (Hilborn 50-52). After all Hilborn is human like us and he shouldn't be treated differently because at the end of the day he just another person who doesn't want to be misunderstood but loved. “I want her back so bad... I leave the door unlocked. I leave the lights on." (Hilborn 75-77). He changing his ways because of her, which is a big sacrifice for anyone who suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder. He is willing to do anything just so he could be loved again by her.
